Our values guide our thinking and actions – that includes only sharing public information and complying with all laws that govern how we do business. As a public company, we have to comply with both the Security and Exchange Commission’s rules on public information and the Federal Trade Commission’s rules about truthful advertising. To do that, we have guidelines to help associates use social media in ways that keep both them and the company safe.
It’s OK to be active in social media … just consider our values and the following points when talking about work anywhere online. Below are a few key ideas from our social media policy. Click the links to read the complete policy.
USE THE NEWSPAPER RULE. Before you post something, consider how you would feel if it showed up on the front page of a newspaper. Example:
DON’T: I work at Bath & Body Works and when I think nobody is watching, I pick my nose and eat it.
KEEP CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION CONFIDENTIAL. Don't post anything about our products before they're on the shelves. Same thing goes for sales results that haven’t been released by the company. Remember, things should remain under wraps until they're actually in our stores or in an official company announcement. Examples:
DO: At work, I got to smell our new candle that came out today -- it smells great.
DON’T: Hey, did you know that in a couple of months Wallflowers will be available in XXXX scent???
FOLLOW COMPANY VALUES IN YOUR ONLINE ACTIVITY. Be respectful to your co-workers, customers and our company. Examples:
DO: My team at Victoria’s Secret rocks!
DON’T: My co-worker stinks beyond belief . . . you'd think she'd at least get some of our BBW body splash to save the rest of us!
TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR WORDS. If you’re talking about the company or our products, be sure to say that you are an associate. Examples:
DO: During my shift at Bath & Body Works …
DO: While I was doing a floorset at Victoria’s Secret …
DO: I work at La Senza …
DO: Just got off work at Henri Bendel …
If you discuss our products, don’t compare them with another company’s product. Example:
DON’T: Our bras are so much better than ABC Company’s knock offs.
It's OK to talk about how you feel about a product, but don't quantify anything or make any scientific claims. Examples:
DO: I just started working at Henri Bendel, and the purses we put out today are not my fav, but Jen, they are totally u!
DON'T: It's better than X. It contains 58 mg of substance Y.
DON'T: Our makeup is 100% better than DEF Company's.
PASS ON ANY MEDIA INQUIRIES. If you are contacted by the media, forward them to extcomm@limitedbrands.com or 1-800-945-5088.
BE SAFE. Be careful about posting personal information online about you, other associates or customers. Examples:
DON’T: Hey, I’m working at PINK in the ABC Mall tonight from 6-9…come see me.
DON'T: Call me at 123-456-7890…I’ll be at the food court on break.
